Why a bespoke radiation portal monitor works best

Ten years ago, Southern Scientific and Rapiscan Systems created a bespoke radiation portal monitor system for Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

This system helps to ensure the hospital is disposing of its radioactive waste in line with regulatory procedures.

Clinical Scientist and Radioactive Waste Advisor at the Trust, Tony Zananiri, said the portal monitor provides a "bespoke system that acts as a gatekeeper. The monitor is designed to measure low amounts of radioactivity in wheeled bins that exit the building which makes sure there is no radioactive waste within them."
