Southern Scientific is awarded Silver accreditation by Investors in People

Demonstrating a clear commitment to people

Southern Scientific is delighted to announce that it has been awarded Silver accreditation by Investors in People. IIP is an internationally recognised framework which is granted to organizations that demonstrate a clear commitment to the people who work there. Only 22% of IIP accredited organizations achieve Silver, demonstrating the high standards and principles that we employ across our business. The assessment included discussions with the business leaders, in-depth interviews with staff selected at random from across the company, and a survey sent out to all employees.

IIP recognised that our employees have a very good understanding of the company’s purpose, its priorities, and how they contribute to its success. Our commitment to creating a family atmosphere is a core value for the business and many employees consider the value as being reflective of their own. In addition to developing relationships between employees, the accreditation recognises Southern Scientific’s efforts to introduce procedures and frameworks that help facilitate a positive place to work, making sure that our people feel properly supported.

Positive connections

Investors in People practitioner Alex Elmywood said “There are strong relationships between managers and employees with people confirming that their line manager is supportive in helping their them to deliver their individual and team priorities and objectives … with many people referring to the family-feel and the positive connection people have with their manager and colleagues.”

IIP saw how employees are encouraged to use their own initiative and feel greatly supported at work. Southern Scientific has a clear commitment to staff development and learning, with staff encouraged to identify new and improved ways of working. The business continually looks for ways to recognise, reward, and motivate staff, often adapting roles and responsibilities to support personal development and drive continuous improvement within the business.

It's the people that make the place

Southern Scientific’s Managing Director James Tomlinson said, “I am incredibly proud of the whole team for their contribution to Silver accreditation because it’s ultimately these guys that make Southern Scientific the place it is. It is a great recognition of what we do well, but also highlights how we can continue to improve and develop the business through good practices and staff investment.”

Earlier this year, Southern Scientific moved into its refurbished offices in Henfield, Sussex. The new environment has been designed to improve communications between departments, allowing people to better understand their work within the wider context of the business. Open-plan spaces and expanded facilities for production and R&D will support the company’s continued expansion as we continue to grow in the specialist industries in which we serve.
