Use of this phantom ensures quality can be tested and maintained through the years, and radiation dose versus image quality can be optimized
Construction
The phantom consists of an aluminum base with various cylindrical objects of different depth and diameter. The aluminum base is covered with Plexiglas® (PMMA). Under normal dental-radiation conditions the aluminum base and PMMA cover have an equivalent of an average tooth. The thickness of the phantom is 3.0 mm, the overall size is 40 by 30 mm. The effective area is 25 by 16 mm, which makes the phantom suitable for almost every image sensor on the market.
The objects differ in depth from 0.04 mm to 0.70 mm, in 10 exponential steps. The diameter of the objects also varies in 10 exponential steps from 0.10 mm to 1.00 mm.
Evaluation
The phantom is can be used in conjunction with the automatic analyzer program CDDENT Analyzer.
