Compact and easy to operate, the Helgeson 'Do-it- Yourself' Whole Body Counter offers a low-cost instrument for ensuring the safety of personnel at nuclear facilities, laboratories and hospitals.

The 'Do-It-Yourself' Whole Body Counter measures the number of gamma emitters in the whole body and gives also an approximate position of the nuclides.

Measurement

The Helgeson 'Do-It-Yourself' Whole Body Counter uses a measurement geometry that allows the lowest false alarms rate due to non-uniform source distribution. The analytical software provides qualitative and quantitative analysis of radioactive depositions. The graphical representation of the data allows the user to determine the quality of the evaluation.

Software for the 'Do-It-Yourself' Whole Body Counter is 'user-friendly' with a menu format that provides a variety of standard and optional operating programs. System performance software includes a Quality Assurance program that checks the electronics of the Nal(TI) counter, reporting any errors to the operator. An Energy Calibration program allows the gain of the detector-amplifier system to be adjusted to uniformity and conformity to the design parameters.

The Helgeson 'Do-It-Yourself' Whole Body Counter allows a variety of analyses to be performed including counts for mixed fission products, thorium, 226 radium, as well as routine energy calibrations. The 'Do-It-Yourself' system features a continuous background monitoring capability which reduces counting time and increase accuracy. Electronic components are chosen for long term unattended operation and stability. The system is interfaced to a micro-computer which serves as a multi-channel pulse height analyser, a multi-scaling analyser, and a data processing unit, as well as a general purpose scientific computer. Various configurations are available, depending upon customer needs.
