A radon calibration service based in the UK for active radon monitors

It is a requirement for radon monitors to be calibrated to ensure readings are within correct limits. Radon monitors can accumulate 210Pb contamination due to the decay of radon. As a result, annual inspections are vital to confirm that the results remain reliable, and the device remains functional.

Southern Scientific’s radon calibration service is provided directly through our Nuclear Services Department at our head office in Sussex. It uses certified and rigorous radon testing methods that are traceable to the Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz (BfS) in Germany.

All testing is conducted in a carefully controlled environmental radon chamber to ensure precision and limiting the influence of external ambient conditions. The chamber allows radon levels to be reduced down to near zero and up to high levels for increased calibration ranges. 

Which radon monitors can you calibrate?

Our environmental radon chamber can calibrate active monitors from a range of manufacturers and suppliers including the Bertin Instruments AlphaE and AlphaGuard, Airthings Corentium (formerly known as Canary), and many more. How long does the calibration service take?

Because our Nuclear Services Department is based at our head office in Henfield, Sussex, we can provide UK and Ireland customers with a quicker turnaround than other calibration services, who often have to ship the monitors internationally to the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM). We can provide an estimated turnaround time when we quote.

What are your prices?

Our prices vary depending on the complexity of the calibration required for your system. We can provide a quote when you contact us with your instrument’s make, model, and serial number.

What standards do you use to calibrate?

Our radon reference instrument holds a calibration that is traceable to the Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz (BfS) in Germany.
